5 Holiday Self Care Tips for Business Owners

A newsletter header for The Gratitude Gazette featuring a headshot of a smiling woman on the left, the title ‘The Gratitude Gazette,’ the subtitle ‘Practical things small business owners need to run their businesses better,’ and the text ‘A Twice a Month Newsletter.’ Below it is an image of wooden letter tiles spelling out ‘SELF CARE’ scattered among blank tiles.

I wanted to share these holiday self-care tips for business owners because I recently realized I’m the one who needs them most.

In the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, I felt like I was running around in circles trying to get everything done.

We had family traveling eight hours to spend the holiday with us this year, so I decided to cook the entire meal.

I did my best to avoid the stress of Thanksgiving week shopping by making it a point to buy everything ahead of time because I can’t stand crowded holiday aisles.

Even then, remembering every ingredient for every dish felt like its own full-time job.

And I still ended up needing a couple of extra trips to the store.

Thankfully, our family ended up arriving earlier than expected so I had some help! So grateful!

Some client work was also something I wanted to complete before the holiday with the same level of care I always aim for but even with the best planning, it reminded me of how quickly we can push ourselves without noticing.

Around that same time, I realized I was juggling more than just holiday prep and client projects.

My husband and I participate in a local Farmer’s Market every Saturday, which usually adds another layer to our weekly routine.

Thankfully, we chose to take the Saturday after Thanksgiving off so we could enjoy our family visit without trying to manage one more commitment.

That one small break made a bigger difference than I expected.

All of this made me think that some of you might be feeling the same way.

And as December approaches, the calendar tends to pick up again.

These simple reminders help you find more peace and create a steadier rhythm through the rest of the season.

1. Add a Few Quick Prayer Pauses into Your Workday

December can bring a lot of extra noise and activity, so a short pause can help settle your mind. A quiet moment between tasks can reset your thoughts and help you feel more grounded.

Take a breath, say a quick prayer, and let your shoulders relax. These tiny pauses can shift your entire day.

2. Step Outside for a Short Walk Whenever You Feel Stuck

A short walk is one of the simplest ways to calm your thoughts when things start to feel heavy. Even ten minutes of fresh air can clear your mind and give you space to reset.

Walking helps you return to your work with greater clarity, and it can reduce tension before it builds.

3. Create Simple Work Boundaries That Make Life Easier

December is full of events, gatherings, and extra responsibilities. Try giving yourself a soft end time for work or designating one day each week to unplug from email.

These small choices allow you to breathe and stay connected to the people who matter most.

4. Ask for Help Before You Feel Overwhelmed

You don’t have to do everything on your own. Asking a family member to help with a chore or giving yourself permission to spread out your workload makes everything feel more manageable.

Even a small amount of support can take some of the stress off your shoulders.

5. Protect Your Sleep the Same Way You Protect Your Business

Good sleep is essential during the holiday rush. Try winding down earlier or reading a few pages of a book to help your mind relax.

These little habits help your body feel restored so you can show up with more energy and focus the next day.

As we step into December, I hope these reminders make your days feel lighter.

This season can be full and beautiful, but it can also pull us in many directions. Give yourself permission to slow down and care for your own well-being. It will make all the difference.

You deserve to move through this month with clarity, peace, and margin.

And if you ever need support in keeping your business organized during the holidays, I’m here to help you create the space you need to enjoy what matters most.
