I Think I Named a Chicken Yesterday

Some days are completely ordinary.

And some days… not so much!

Yesterday, my neighbor Becky pulled into my driveway in her buggy to say hello.

Of course, I ran outside to see Jr., her giant Catahoula, and Tillie, her little Jack Russell.

Then Becky casually asked, “Did you see my chicken?”

“What chicken?”

She pointed to the back seat where, perched on top of a rolled-up hose and a couple of plastic bins, sat the most relaxed chicken I’ve ever seen.

She looked completely content, just enjoying the ride.

Becky told my husband that a friend had given her the chicken, and she thinks she must have been raised around dogs because she follows Jr. and Tillie everywhere they go.

If Jr. and Tillie hop into the Buggy, the chicken hops in as well.

I walked over to pet her and said, “Hi, Chicken.”

Becky laughed and said, “Oh, come on. You’ve got to come up with a better name than ‘Chicken.'”

Oh…okay. I guess I’m naming a chicken today?

My first suggestion was Tiffany. I honestly have no idea why that name was the first one that came to me.

Becky quickly vetoed it because she has a cousin named Tiffany who probably wouldn’t appreciate having a chicken named after her.

Then I realized…I have a friend named Tiffany, too, who probably wouldn’t appreciate it either.

If you’re reading this, sorry, Tiff.

The next name that popped into my head was Betty, thanks to a sweet Beagle I’d seen on Instagram with the same name.

Becky smiled and said, “Becky and Betty…that might work.”

And just like that, I think I accidentally named a chicken.

Only in the country.

As I walked back to my desk afterward, I couldn’t help but smile.

Moments like this remind me of one of the reasons I started The Grateful VA in the first place.

I truly love serving my clients and helping their businesses run more smoothly, but I also love having the flexibility to step away from my computer when life hands me an unexpected story…especially if that story involves a chicken named Betty riding on the back of a buggy through the neighborhood.

It’s funny how the moments we never plan often become our favorite memories.

I’d love to hear from you…

What’s the most “Only in the Country” or “Only in My Life” moment you’ve experienced lately?

Just hit reply, I can’t wait to read your stories!
