The Power of a Daily To-Do List

Small List, Big Impact: Staying Focused One Task at a Time

Small List, Big Impact: Staying Focused One Task at a Time

Hi friend,

Let me take you back a few years—back when I worked at a construction company and had a boss who gave me one of the best pieces of productivity advice I’ve ever received.

He told me to start a “to do list,” and write everything down.

Every task. Every email request. Every “Hey, can you take care of this real quick?” moment.

And then? Choose at least three things to complete that day and prioritize three more.

It’s a small list with big impact and it helps you stay focused on one task at a time.

That habit stuck with me. I started using a legal pad (yes, old-school style) and checking off tasks as I went.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about physically crossing something off a list!

Fast forward to a couple years ago when I went through VA school, and my business coach there also encouraged us to use a daily to-do list. She even provided one for us to help us stay on track.

By then, this was already second nature to me!

Sure, these days we’ve got all kinds of fancy apps—Trello, Monday.com, Asana… and don’t get me wrong, they’re great. In fact, I mentioned Trello in an older newsletter. But truthfully? I still reach for my pencil and pad.

So, today’s email is both an encouragement and a gift.

I created a simple printable To-Do List Template based on how I personally organize my days—so you can try this method too.

But here’s the twist—this isn’t just about what you need to do. It’s also about what you can let go of.

Things to Let Go Of

Sometimes, our productivity struggles come from holding onto too much—unrealistic expectations, guilt over unfinished tasks, or the pressure to do it all. This section of the printable is your reminder to release a few things each day and make space for peace.

Gratitude Corner

Tucked at the bottom of the list, you’ll also find a little Gratitude Corner—a space to jot down one or two things you’re thankful for. It’s a simple practice that helps reframe your day and brings a little joy to even the busiest schedule.
