This weekend, my husband, a team from our church, and I traveled to Bradenton/Palmetto, Florida, to help local churches and their members with Hurricane Milton cleanup.
Our work mainly involved cutting broken branches from fallen trees and piling the debris for trash collectors to pick up. While it may not sound like much, it took us hours to complete.
Without my husband’s Kubota, it could have taken days.
On our first day, a woman approached us in tears, calling us her “angels.” She couldn’t understand why we would help her and was so grateful that she baked us cookies.
Another gentleman kept shaking our hands, showing his deep appreciation.
On the second day, at a different location, I overheard one man jokingly say to the person we were helping, “You’re having a party, and you didn’t invite me?” The person responded, “They just showed up! Isn’t that great?”
Later, one of my teammates spoke with that same man. He said, “A few days ago, we were so overwhelmed and had no hope. We are very grateful.”
Our church’s mission was to be the hands and feet of Jesus, helping, loving, and praying for those in need. He gets all the glory!
This experience reminded me of my work as a Virtual Assistant.
Just as we brought hope to hurricane victims, my goal is to give small business owners relief by handling the overwhelming tasks that keep them from focusing on what they love.
Over the weekend, some local residents worked alongside us, much like how I partner with business owners to lighten their load.
While our service to the victims of Hurricane Milton wasn’t paid (except for the cookies), the joy of helping others was priceless.
As a Virtual Assistant, I feel joy when I can help a small business owner reduce stress and overwhelm from their lives.
